What’s Included in Media Writing Services Guided Author?

The Media Writing Services Guided Author Program is a proven program that provides you with everything you need to write, publish, and market your book.

North Star and Book Roadmap Sessions

Over the course of up to two in-depth and collaborative conversations with your Book Coach, we’ll help you first settle on your book idea, and then take that book idea and turn it into a tight, professional book positioning by clearly articulating your objectives and identifying your audience. This document serves as your “North Star” throughout the writing process.

You’ll also have a call with your Book Coach to help you craft your book’s Table of Contents. From there, over the course of up to four calls, we’ll create a chapter-by-chapter outline—what we call a Book Roadmap—that lays the foundation for your book.

Book Coaching and Review Sessions

You’ll have two coaching sessions with your Book Coach during your manuscript writing process. Your Book Coach will review selected chapters, provide feedback, advice, improvements, and accountability as you write. When you’ve finished your first draft of your manuscript, your Book Coach will review the entire document and provide you with an evaluation memo. You’ll have a call with your Book Coach to review their feedback, discuss editing and revisions, and ask any questions you may have to ensure you’re ready to begin editing.

Author Community Platform

Once you begin writing your manuscript, you’ll be added to our Guided Author Community platform, Circle, where you can interact with other Authors, Book Coaches, and Author Success Managers. You’ll have the opportunity to engage in weekly accountability prompts and ask all of your questions to our team of experts.

Full Digital Course Access

You will begin by working through the best book writing course available: Media Writing Services Guided Author Digital course. This course walks you through each step of starting your book, including the positioning, the book structure, the outline, and more. You will begin your book there, before even working with a Book Coach.

A Full Edit of Your Manuscript by Professional Editors

When you’ve finished writing your manuscript, a Media Writing Services editor will do a full round of content edits.

The Media Writing Services editorial team will dig in and give you high-level developmental notes to help you polish and finish the manuscript. Your editor is an experienced professional who has worked on dozens of bestselling books in their career, and their job is to make sure your book is good enough to publish.

We call this edit the “Hurt Your Feelings” edit because we promise that we will hurt your feelings before we let you put out a bad book. Sold by itself, this is a $5k value.

Full Publishing Services

Once you’re finished editing, we do everything necessary for a professionally published book.

This includes a beautifully designed cover and interior layout, full coordination of all publishing details (ISBN, bio, description, etc.), hardcover, paperback, and eBook formats included, and everything else we do when publishing a book (detailed here). Sold by itself, this is a $24k value.

Full Distribution Services
  • Full printing services with the ability to order unlimited copies at production cost
  • Full distribution through major online retailers (Amazon, BarnesandNoble.com, etc.)
  • You keep 100% of royalties.

How the Guided Author
Process Works

We have a proven process that will not only get the best possible book out of you—but help you at every step along the way.

1

Book Strategy Consult

The first step—before you begin your book—is to make sure you actually have a book in you and determine whether our method is the right one for you.

To do this, you will speak with an Author Strategist who will help you get clear on three things:

  1. Your book idea
  2. The audience you’re trying to reach (and how your book will serve them)
  3. The objectives you hope the book will help you achieve (like making money with a book, or using a book to build your brand)

Note that this is not a sales call. This is about determining whether you have a book in you and whether our company is the right fit to help you write it.

Our process does not work for everyone. If we determine that we’re not a good fit for each other, we’ll happily refer you to a service or company that can meet your needs.

2

Assemble your Publishing Team

To begin the process, you’ll meet your Author Success Manager. They’re your main point of contact and will assemble your creative team.

Your Author Success Manager’s primary job is to ensure that your book is as good as possible and publishes on time.

On the introduction call they will get to know you and your book idea to collect enough information from you to match you with a Book Coach.

3

Review Digital Course

You’ll work through our comprehensive writing course, led by Media Writing Services’s expert editorial team. The course will walk you through every step of the process.

You will first position your book, then outline it, then create your writing plan, then go over everything else you need to know to write and edit your book. Our goal for each workshop module is that you leave knowing exactly what you need to do, and full confidence that—with Media Writing Services’s support—you can do it.

4

Book Coaching Sessions

On your first call with your Book Coach, you’ll review and finalize the “North Star” of your book.

This will be similar to the Book Strategy consult call, but will go into much greater depth and accomplish these things:

  • Specifically articulate what your book is about
  • Define exactly who your audience is
  • Understand precisely how your book will serve that audience and why they will care about your book
  • Specifically articulate how you will use the book to benefit you

Once you’ve locked in your book’s North Star, you’ll work with your Book Coach to review and finalize your Table of Contents and Book “Roadmap.” The Roadmap will be a guide for your writing and will help you define your ideas, sharpen your thinking, and lay the foundation for your book.

5

Write

You will leave your coaching sessions and have literally everything ready to write—and you will. To ensure you stay on track, you’ll join our Guided Author Community, where our team will be there to help you through any problems, obstacles, and issues you face.

You’ll also have two writing check in calls with your Book Coach, where you’ll review a chapter of your choice to ensure you’re on track. You’ll meet one-on-one to discuss what’s working, what needs to be refined, and how to tackle the next steps of your book.

6

Review Your Manuscript

You’ll have a final call with your Book Coach to review their notes on your entire first draft manuscript. On this call, you’ll discuss editing, address their feedback, and ask any questions you have so that you’re ready to revise your manuscript and submit it for publishing.

7

The Full Media Writing Services Design, Publishing & Distribution Services

After our edit and your revisions, when you are finished with your manuscript, you hand it to us and we do all the publishing.

This includes a beautifully designed cover and interior layout, full coordination of all publishing details (ISBN, bio, description, etc.), hardcover, paperback, and eBook formats included, and everything else we do when publishing a book.

8

Launch and Promotion

As the book’s release approaches, we’ll prepare for your book release by designing social media graphics for you to post and drafting emails to send to your contacts.

When the book launches, we’ll run a pricing campaign on Amazon to spur initial sales, during which we’ll coordinate a review campaign to get early reviews for the book and provide you with a strategy and templates to launch an email campaign to your contacts.

The goal of this first week is to finish with a baseline of reviews, readers, and media attention to continue building from as you begin your life as a published author.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s included in the Guided Author program?

You get everything you need to confidently write, publish, and market your book. Literally everything. The entire program is described in detail here.

Is editing included? How does the editing work?

Yes, editing is included. Once you finish the rough draft of your manuscript, then you hand it to us for a complete structural edit. Your manuscript will be fully edited by a member of our Executive Editing team, someone who has at least 15 years experience in book editing.

As to how we edit, we tell our authors this:

“We will hurt your feelings before we let you publish a bad book.”

Our first goal in this edit is to ensure your book is not bad. If it is, we will tell you where it’s bad and how to fix it.

Once we know it’s not bad (and they are rarely bad), then the goal is to help you take it from good to great.

We will push you to write the best book possible, because our name is on the book as well as yours.

Is publishing included? How does publishing work?

Yes, everything necessary to publish your book is included: interior layout, cover design, distribution, everything. In fact, the publishing process is the same as what we use with our Media Writing Services Professional authors.

Do I have to take 15 months, or can I go faster?

Authors get to pay for the service over 15 months, but you can publish in as little as 9 months. The difference depends entirely on how long it takes for you to write and edit your manuscript.

The only catch is that in order for us to fully publish your book, you must be paid in full.

It’s time to write your book.
We can help.

If you’re serious about writing and publishing your book this year, let’s talk.

We’ll discuss your book idea, see if it makes sense, and help you understand the best next steps.
